Texans in Rio- Go Team USA!
Katie Meili of Colleyville won the bronze medal in the Women's 100m Breaststroke finals! Her teammate, Lilly King, won the gold medal in that same event.

Congratulations to both these outstanding young women and continued good luck to Team USA. I will be cheering on Team USA, especially all the Texans, competing in and coaching at this year’s Olympics. All of the 24th District wishes you success in your quest to bring home the gold. Click here to learn more about the Texans representing the USA in Rio.
11th Annual Eagle Scout Ceremony

Last week, I was honored to host our annual Eagle Scout ceremony at the Boy Scouts of America national headquarters in Irving. 48 Boy Scouts from the 24th District were honored for  achieving the Eagle Scout rank, the highest honor in the Boy Scouts of America program.

To achieve this honor, the scout must earn at least 21 merit badges, develop and oversee a community service project, and fulfill a pledge to live according to the Scout oath. According to the National Eagle Scout Association, less than five percent of scouts earn Eagle Scout rank each year.

The ceremony highlighted each scout, providing them the opportunity to describe their Eagle Scout project to their peers, Scout Leaders, and family members. Over 200 people were in attendance to observe their presentations. Some of the outstanding projects included the renovation of public buildings, assisting the homeless, and updating the homes of disabled individuals with accessibility improvements such as wheelchair ramps and hand rails.

I was honored to recognize so many new Eagle Scouts at this wonderful event. Each Eagle Scout made a special presentation about their contributions to the community and received the recognition they absolutely deserve for their achievement. Congratulations to all these scouts- I couldn't be more proud of these bright young men of the 24th District.

Texas Delegation Presses President on Zika Response
On August 5, 2016, I joined Senator Cornyn and Senator Cruz in sending a letter to the President regarding his administration's Zika response.

The letter from the Texas Republican delegation in Congress addressed Texas' serious concerns regarding the administration’s failure to allocate funds already available for Zika response efforts. On April 6, 2016, the administration used existing legal authorities to re-purpose $589 million for Zika response activities.  Sadly, there are reports that nearly $400 million of that money remains unused. This letter demands the administration explain why it has not used all available tools to protect Texas, my constituents, and all Americans from the threat of the Zika virus.
