Honoring and Remembering Sgt. Michael Smith

Yesterday I addressed the House to honor and remember Sgt. Michael Smith of the Dallas Police Department. The tragedy that took place on July 7th left a scar on our community. But the bravery and memory of all of the officers whose lives were cut short will never be forgotten. Rest in Peace Sgt. Michael Smith of Carrollton, Texas.

  • Protecting Rights of Conscience (full statement here): This week I voted to protect health care workers rights of conscience. As a committed pro-life conservative, I believe Congress must protect the lives of innocent unborn children. The Conscience Protection Act, which passed the house by a vote of 245-182, protects the religious liberty of healthcare providers who object to abortion services.

  • Holding Iran Accountable (full statement here): The House voted to expand sanctions against Iran. These sanctions were drafted following the Iranian regime‚Äôs numerous violations of the nuclear deal struck with the administration. Congress has sent the message; the administration must join us and stop appeasing our enemies.
  • Protecting Seniors' Identities: This week I voted in the Ways and Means Committee to advance legislation to protect seniors from potential identity theft. The Social Security MAIL Act (H.R. 5320) requires the Social Security Administration to remove Social Security Numbers from all mailings and justify when the inclusion is necessary. Congress must continue its work to combat identity theft, especially in our most vulnerable populations.

  • Thanks to Governor Abbot, Mayor Mike Rawlings, and Chief of Dallas Police David Brown: This week on behalf of the 24th District, I sent letters to Mayor Rawlings, Chief of Police Brown, and Governor Abbot. Thank you again for your service during this difficult time gentlemen.
